IN SHORT

The final score isn’t a fair description of what kind of game this really was, as both teams kept the game close through four innings. Montville opened up the tight contest in the bottom half of the fifth, though, with an aggressive approach on the base paths, which led to a number of Madison fielding miscues and a four-run inning for Montville. Starting pitcher Jordan Gajdos held Madison to just four hits through five innings.

MUSTANG OF THE GAME

Matt Kelly went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored in the Mustang win.

Connor Higgins went 2-for-3, driving in two runs and stealing one base.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Ryan Karl (Montville), 1-for-2 with a solo-home run, two walks and three runs scored; Jordan Gajdos (Montville), allowed four hits over the first five innings, while going 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored; Connor Higgins (Madison), 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one stolen base.

THEY SAID IT
“We’re feeling pretty good. We’ve had goals set since the beginning of the year and one of them was to go pretty deep in this tournament. We’ve kept the approach of doing things right on defense, on the bases and at the plate. We played a nice game today and hopefully we can do it again next week.”—Head Coach Paul Cardinale

Up Next—Mount Olive on Monday at home at 4 p.m.
