IN SHORT
The Montville boys soccer team took control of the game 15 seconds into the contest when Kelvin Pensuwan scored a quick goal. It was all the team would need in a dominating performance against a winless opponent. Goalkeeper tandem of Frank Maggiore and Chris Gianfrancesco barely needed to make a save during the contest to share the shutout. Late in the first half, a High Point player earned a red card by taking down Maggiore away from the play. The Montville goalie left with a leg injury and did not return. As a result, the Wildcats played a man short the rest of the game. The Mustangs kept their composure and scored three more goals in the second half to earn a commanding victory.
MUSTANG OF THE GAME
Mikey Georgiades—The Montville forward scored 10 minutes into the game to give his team a 2-0 advantage. He added a breakaway goal in the 60th minute to make it a three-goal game. Early in the season it was thought that generating offense would be a concern for this year’s Mustangs. Georgiades is one of the Mustangs that have stepped up. He has scored four goals in the last two games.
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Montville reserve Marcus Elias surprised his teammates by scoring a pair of second-half goals. Defenders like Eric Manning and Jared Weiner weren’t tested much but they were on top fo their games and rarely allowed a High Point counter. The defense corralled most of the Wildcats efforts and pushed the ball back into the midfield. Jack London, Kenny Kiernan, Zach Adler and Matthew Picon also seemed very active in winning balls and creating opportunities for the Mustangs. Picon, Weiner and Matt Crossan registered assists.
THEY SAID IT
"We have very good players and we have the ability to win. We’re passing a lot and were working together more. Today we learned to keep our cool because they were playing very aggressive. We passed the ball well."–Mikey Georgiades
“I got the most upset (when Maggiore was fouled). I almost lost it from there. It was uncalled for. He didn’t do anything. They were just taking their anger out on us for moving the ball pretty well. I think he will be okay. He said it was just a bone bruise. We need him to be the team we want to be. I got so angry.'' – Jack London
