Library Board Clears Trustee of Misconduct Allegations

Board passes a resolution saying trustee Robert Lefkowitz is not guilty of misconduct.

The Montville Library Board of Trustees approved a resolution Monday night clearing trustee Robert Lefkowitz of allegations of misconduct, drawing to a close a board issue that began in November 2010.

“I’m glad to have the whole thing dong,” Lefkowitz said. “I think the board can move forward and better serve the community.”

The official resolution, made by board member Tim Braden, said that the Board of Trustees finds that Lefkowitz did no misconduct and that the board will take no further actions regarding allegations against him. Under the amendment, Lefkowitz will likewise take no future again against the board on this matter.

“I have no problem supporting this if we add language that says Robert will agree not to take any further actions,” board member Don Kostka said. “This way, its over and done with.”

Allegations of misconduct by Lefkowitz were Board attorney Ann Grossi presented a list of 21 alleged instances of misconduct before the board voted to table the issue. At a subsequent meeting in December 2010, Lefkowitz presented a counter-argument to the accusations, saying that the instances presented by the board attorney were without evidence.

The library board voted 5-2-2 in favor of passing Monday’s resolution to clear Lefkowitz of allegations.

“The board did not bring these allegations or charges or whatever word you want to use,” Braden said. “There were not made by the board. Personally, I think there was some damage done to Robert’s reputation. I think we can move on.”
