IN SHORT
The Mustangs and Gaels looked as evenly matched as possible Saturday afternoon, with the Mustangs taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, where the game would stay for most of the afternoon. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Gaels pulled ahead after a solo homerun and a run-scoring triple.

MUSTANG OF THE GAME
Jordan Gajdos—Six innings pitched, two runs allowed on five hits, five strike outs.

“This was the best game he’s pitched all season,” Montville head coach Joe Cardinale said.

Gajdos carried the team from the mound, but also came up big at the plate. He went 1-3 with a single and the teams only RBI.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Anthony Altieri, who turned a key double play with two runners on and one out in the fifth inning to bring the bench and crowd to its feet. Brian Keane, who started the Mustangs off with a single in the first inning and was the only Mustang to score a run.

THEY SAID IT
"Clearly it was a goal of ours to win this tournament, but that’s what baseball is. Anyone can beat you on any day. There is still a lot to play for in the conference and state. I will be anxious to see in the upcoming weeks how this loss will effect us. I think we are very physically and mentally strong."– Cardinale

Up Next—High Point Regional High School on Monday at 4 p.m. at home.
