Man Charged With Murder 15 Months After BurlCo Apartment Complex Shooting: Prosecutor

His co-defendant was charged in June for his role in the killing of a 32-year-old tenant, authorities said.

MAPLE SHADE, NJ — Fifteen months after a fatal shooting at a Maple Shade apartment complex, a second person was charged with murder, authorities announced Friday. Federal officials took Gregory Berry into custody for his role in the January 2022 killing of Ezekiel Sanders Jr., the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

The year-plus investigation began after officers responded to the Fox Meadow apartment complex on Jan. 16, 2022, for a reported shooting in the parking lot. Sanders, a 32-year-old tenant, sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals Service's regional fugitive task force took Berry, of Glassboro, into custody Thursday at a West Deptford home. Officials placed him in the Burlington County Jail. Prosecutors plan to present the case to a grand jury for possible indictment.

Berry was charged with several first-degree offenses (murder, murder during the commission of a crime, and robbery) and second-degree offenses (unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose).

Macklin-Goodwine was charged in June with murder, robbery (both first-degree), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have weapons (second-degree offenses). Officials also placed him in the county jail.
