Moorestown Friends Student Wins National Award For Poetry
Serena Lin, of Moorestown, won a silver medal at the national level of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her poem, "Seasons."

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A Moorestown Friends School student has been recognized nationally for her poetry. Junior Serena Lin, of Moorestown, won a silver medal at the national level of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her poem, “Seasons,” the school announced. She will be recognized, along with all the other national winners, at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Lin won a total of 10 awards at the 2018 Southern NJ Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. “Seasons” earned Gold Keys recognition during that competition, which helped her qualify for national recognition. She also earned Gold Keys for her poems "On Outliving One Another" and "Back in the Ring Again" at the regional level.
Lin was awarded Silver Keys for her poems "Slut," "Kickback," "Kwansaba" and "Molotov Cocktail."
She received honorable mentions for her poems "And Then It Was Less Bleak Because We Said So" and "Girlhood," and her flash fiction piece "An Autopsy."

At the regional level, Moorestown Friends School senior Megan Mininno, of Moorestown, won a Gold Key and was an American Vision Nominee for her mixed media piece "Narrative."
Sophomore Calvin Bell, of Pennsauken, won a Gold Key for photography for his piece "Light's Prospective."
All three were considered for national awards. Two other students at Moorestown Friends School were recognized at the regional level.

Sophomore Hannah Jin, of Cherry Hill, won two honorable mentions for her poems entitled "The Panda" and "Saturday Morning."
Junior Vika Kulchyckyj, of Cinnaminson, won two honorable mentions for her photographs "Bloom" and "Standing Alone."
