Moorestown Resident Concerned With Miles Technology Site Proposal

Gerry Thone is speaking out against the way township council is moving forward with a plan on a proposed affordable housing site.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A Moorestown resident is voicing concerns over the process township council is taking as far as an affordable housing development on the Miles Technology site is concerned. Below is the Letter to the Editor from Moorestown resident Gerry Thone.

To the Editor:

I'm disappointed to see the Moorestown Township Council moving forward with building low-income, high-density housing at the current Miles Technology site with little public input and a troubling lack of transparency.

Most discussions on this site have been held outside of the public eye in closed meetings, and many public comment sections of recent council meetings were removed altogether as these backroom meetings took the place of the "workshop" usually held ahead of official action.

Council then decided to hold a presentation on the site with a developer on the same night they would pass a series of pieces of legislation tied to the site. Residents even pointed out that council doesn't even have a price for the property, yet they are moving forward anyway.

To make matters worse, Mayor Petriello only scheduled one meeting where the public could come ask questions of the developer, held on a Monday in July from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. when many Moorestonians are still working, commuting, on vacation, or shuttling kids home from summer activities.

I call on the town council to become more transparent and to halt these plans until the public has a fair chance to analyze, research, and ask any questions they may have. Public feedback can only make the plan better and a better fit for Moorestown.
