New Bus Stop Coming to Camden Avenue; Moorestown to Pursue Grants for Lenola Improvements

A tentative town hall meeting on improvements is scheduled for Sept. 29.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post said the bus stop would be on Garfield Avenue. The bus stop is actually on Camden Avenue.

There will now be a bus stop on Camden Avenue, something Moorestown Mayor Victoria Napolitano said fits in with proposed improvements and work in the Lenola section of the township.

Council approved an ordinance on second reading that calls for a bus stop on Camden Avenue, at the site of the Pocket Park between McDonald’s and Manhattan Bagel near the intersection with Garfield Avenue, beginning at the prolongation of the easterly curb line and extending 105 feet east on Monday night.

Additionally, Township Manager Scott Carew announced that the township would look into the possibility of obtaining a Safe Routes to Transit Grant from the county for between $400,000 and $500,000, for streetscape improvements.

“When we did the streetscape on Main Street a couple years ago, we did it in two phases and it was $3 million each,” Carew said.

“From the start, we said there’s a lot to get done with as little impact on the taxpayer as possible,” Napolitano said.

Carew announced a tentative date of Sept. 29 for a town hall meeting at the Lenola Fire Hall to discuss improvements. It would be interactive, with surveys to fill out and a follow-up meeting to discuss those results.

In December, the Lenola Advisory Commission called for a review of bus stops, the repair of sidewalks and the planting of trees on Camden Avenue.

The commission was formed and tasked with reviewing, analyzing, finding solutions and making recommendations to council on the issues and problems facing Lenola residents.

The new bus stop is a result of those recommendations.
