Fairies Still Hard at Work in Morris Plains

Morris Plains has had a Fairy Walk established at Watnong Park for many months, but lately the “fairies” have been hard at work constructing new homes. Area residents are encouraged to stop by the park and see all the great new houses, and to keep a sharp eye out for fairies, too.

The Fairy Walk path is located along the woods beyond the pickleball courts at Watnong Park. White signs indicate the entrance and exit for the path. Watnong Park is located off Grannis Avenue past the center of town and the Speedwell Avenue extension. The park features a playground, a pond with a waterfall, a newly established rain garden, floral plantings and large play areas.

The Fairy Walk was kicked off last year with a special event hosted by members of the Morris Plains Beautification Committee and Clean Communities with help from the Morris Plains Department of Public Works. The entire path was lit overhead and then along the path with flameless candles and little tea lights inside the houses. It was an evening filled with magic, as many of the children that attended (along with a few adults) came dressed as their favorite fairies. Attendees were given special guided tours by the Girl Scouts who shared stories about the little fairy inhabitants. Visitors were also treated to special give-a-ways, face painting, and music provided by high school students. Additionally, they were able to make fairy crafts such as little lanterns to light their way, fancy fairy wands and sparkly clothespin dragonflies to take home. Another event is being planned for next Spring.
