Morris Plains Democratic Committee Supports the Interfaith Food Pantry

The Brown Bag Buddies Program Helps to Provide Food for Area Children

For the third year in a row, the Morris Plains Democratic Committee has held their “Brown Bag Buddies” food collection program. The program provides lunches for children in need through donations to the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry. Morris Plains residents donated 203 pounds of food that were placed into brown lunch bags decorated with special pictures and messages to be distributed by the Food Pantry.

The Brown Bag Buddies program was developed so that children could help other children. Children and their families came to the collection site to decorate bags with stickers, colorful drawings, and special messages, so that those without weekend or holiday seasons meals would have a healthy meal. Every lunch bag included either milk or juice, a protein meal, fruit, and snack bars.

The Interfaith Food Pantry is a distribution center where hungry families can receive the food they need. The mission of the pantry is to provide food security for Morris County residents. In 2023 alone, they distributed 2.2 million pounds of food which included 856 thousand pounds of fresh produce. Additionally, they have outreach partners scattered throughout Morris County to help distribute the needed food.
