Just on Sunday night, one person was killed when a vehicle flipped in a N.J. Turnpike crash, according to police.

The fatal accident was discovered after police responded to the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 8a, police said.

Police had not identified the victims of the Monroe Township crash as of Monday morning. Read more here.

The nice weekend may have brought more travelers to New Jersey's roads this weekend. But Sgt. Jeff Flynn of the New Jersey State Police said there's not always one reason for why more accidents happen on one weekend than another.

"You might have a month where it's extremely low," he said. "Sometimes, it's just by chance."

The weekend accidents had no connection to each other, and they did not appear to be related to wet weather or heavy traffic.

On Saturday, a bicyclist who once rode 100 miles to raise money for multiple sclerosis awareness was killed in New Jersey Saturday after he was hit by an oncoming car, according to police.

Joseph Harvie, 36, of Monroe Township was riding on Mercer Street southbound near Airport Road in East Windsor Saturday when he was hit, police said in a news release. Read more here.

  • One person was seriously injured Sunday evening in a collision between a motorcycle and a minivan in Toms River, the second serious motorcycle crash in the township in three days, police said. The accident happened about 5:30 p.m., when the minivan, which was westbound on Indian Head Road, turned left onto Oak Ridge Parkway in front of a motorcycle that was eastbound on Indian Head Road, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.   • One person was killed Sunday in Howell when a Subaru was heading westbound on Route 33 crashed into a Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. The driver of the pickup truck was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the MCPO. Read more here.
  • That accident came two days after a 19-year-old Manalapan man died Friday night after he was thrown from his motorcycle in Howell, authorities said. Howell police confirmed that the fatal accident happened on Route 547, closing the road between Allaire Rd and Route 524A and Birdsall Road. Read more here.
  • An 18-year-old passenger was killed Friday when his truck crashed into the rear of a dump truck on Route 9, according to authorities. The victim, Adam Rarela of Marlboro, was pronounced dead at the Old Bridge scene at 7:18 a.m., according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department. Read more here.
  • A 53-year-old woman died Saturday after a box truck slammed into her SUV in Franklin Township in Somerset County, sending it down an embankment, according to NJ101.5. Adejoke Sanusi, a resident of the Somerset section of the township, was driving north on Cottontail Lane when a Ford F-550 box truck traveling in the opposite direction failed to navigate a curve and struck the driver side of her Toyota Rav-4, according to the report.
