6K Without Power, Flooding In NJ As More Storms Expected

More than 6,000 people were without power Monday morning as thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to continue to make New Jersey a sloppy mess through the week (see the list of towns with outages below).
Traffic was a problem as thousands dealt with flooding problems throughout New Jersey. The big question that remains is if all this is a big warm-up to Hurricane Florence, which could impact New Jersey later in the week.

The flooding got so bad in some areas – with water getting as deep as 1 1/2 feet – that cars caught fire. Read more: Scary Video Of Car Fires, Floods In Manasquan: Officials
Some areas of New Jersey also got more than 4 inches of rain, and more is expected as a hazardous weather outlook and coastal flooding warnings were issued throughout New Jersey (see rainfall totals below).

Flooding was especially a problem in Cape May County, particularly Egg Harbor Township, Avalon and Ocean City (see video below).
As of 9:30 a.m., flooding was reported on Route 40 in Mays Landing, Route 35 southbound in Belmar and Route 147 in Middle Township.
Because of flooding on Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach Island drivers have been told to utilize Ocean Boulevard and Beach Avenue.

The National Weather Service says periods of rain should transition to showers today from south to north. While much of the rain intensity is light to moderate, the threat for heavier downpours will increase through tonight.
With widespread 1 to 3 inch totals occurring across the area already, any heavier rainfall that occurs today will likely lead to instances of flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
