Two Injured in Hangar Collapse at Morristown Airport

Building under construction began to fall just after 11 a.m. Friday, police say.

An airport hangar collapsed Friday morning at Morristown Airport, sending two men to the hospital with serious injuries, Morristown Police said.

At 11:16 a.m. Morristown Emergency Services were dispatched to the Morristown Municipal Airport on a report of a building collapse, Lt. Stuart Greer said.

Upon arrival first responders found an airplane hanger that was under construction had collapsed, Greer said. The hangar was only partially built and had steel erector beams in place.

A construction worker at the scene fell from an unknown height, seriously injuring his leg as a result of the collapse, Greer said. The man, 35, was treated at the scene and then taken by ambulance to Morristown Medical Center in stable condition.

A second worker was treated for minor bruises to his arm and also taken to Morristown Medical Center, Greer said.

The cause of the collapse is currently unknown and representatives from OSHA are investigating.
