Newark Power Outage Affects Thousands On Monday

Newark, NJ – A massive power outage in Newark left thousands of residents without electricity on Monday morning, reports say.

About 6,000 customers were without power in Newark's North Ward, RLS Media stated.

The outage knocked out multiple traffic lights on the McCarter Highway, including one near the off-ramp on I-280, RLS Media reported.

In addition, the Harrison Bridge was reportedly closed down and police prohibited cars from traveling from Harrison to Newark.

PSE&G’s online outage map reported scattered outages across the city on Monday, including:

• An outage near Highland Avenue affecting 504 customers
• Two outages near 3rd Avenue East affecting 732 and 745 customers
• An outage near Garside Street and Victoria Avenue affecting 1,178 customers
• An outage near St. Michael’s Medical Center affecting 927 customers

A large power outage in April affected about 300 homes, businesses and Rutgers University.
