Several passengers suffered injuries in the crash but are expected to survive, reports say.

NEWARK, NJ — A tour bus carrying about 50 riders crashed into an overpass near Newark Penn Station late Sunday night. Multiple reports stated that several passengers were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries after the collision.

The bus – operated by Liberty Coach Inc. at the arrangement of Ourbus – allegedly hit an overpass at Edison Place and Alling Street around midnight while returning from Washington D.C. The force of the collision ripped off the front portion of the bus, leaving debris scattered about the crash site, NBC New York reported.

Citing federal safety records, ABC New York stated that Pennsylvania-based Liberty Coach had zero reported accidents in the last two years.

Sunday’s collision in Newark came 24-hours after a school bus crash on the New Jersey Turnpike left 42 people injured on Saturday, including both adults and children who reportedly were returning from a picnic, police said.

The bus, which flipped at mile-marker 79.9 around 5:25 p.m. on the northbound side, was returning to Newark after a day at the Mayor's Family Reunion Picnic in Black Bear Lake Camp in Millstone, according to city officials.
