Active Shooter Drills Upcoming At Middlesex County Courts
There will be two upcoming active shooter drills, one on Oct. 24 at the main Middlesex County courthouse and another Dec. 4 at family court.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — There will be two upcoming active shooter drills at the Middlesex County courthouses in New Brunswick, one on Oct. 24 at the main county courthouse on Bayard Street and another on Dec. 4 at the family courthouse.
The drills were announced Wednesday by the Middlesex County sheriff, which is coordinating the drills.
On Oct. 24, the first active shooter drill will take place at the Middlesex County Main Courthouse on Bayard Street. The Courthouse will be closing to the public at 1:30 p.m. on that date. The drill will not impact the filing of papers or emergent matters. Sheriff’s officers will be assigned outside the courthouse to advise
the public and attorneys to go to the family court on New Street for those matters.

Then again on Dec. 4, there will be a similar drill at Middlesex County family court, on New Street. Again, that courthouse will be closed to the public at 1:30 p.m. and anyone filing papers will be directed to the main courthouse.
The purpose of the drills is to test officer reactions and decision making. It will also challenge the judges and court employees as to how they will react. Law enforcement officers from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office S.O.R.T. team and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics will be participating.
