Funeral Home In New Brunswick To Become Italian Restaurant, Banquet Hall
The building will not be torn down; it will become a restaurant and the second floor converted into a banquet space.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man wants to convert an existing funeral home in New Brunswick into a sit-down Italian restaurant.
There is an application currently before the New Brunswick Planning Board to convert the existing Boylan funeral home at 188 Easton Avenue into a sit-down Italian restaurant, with outdoor seating and a second-floor banquet room, according to Planning Board documents.
The man who wants to turn the funeral home into a restaurant is Sam Algar, who owns Sahara restaurant nearby at 165 Easton Avenue, according to MyCentralJersey. He owns several properties in that area and along Easton Avenue.

The garage portion of the existing funeral home building will be converted into a kitchen. There will be no additions to the structure, but windows and doors will be updated and relocated. The existing access to Easton Avenue and Guilden Avenue will be maintained.
The New Brunswick Planning Board will hear the application request at their next meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. May 11 in Council chambers of New Brunswick City Hall.
