Local Fourth of July Events

Nearby towns have activities scheduled for the Fourth of July holiday.

Many Fourth of July festivities, much like the city’s joint on Sunday, do not actually take place on July 4, but rather on days leading up to it.

But if you’re scratching your head wondering where you can find Independence Day festivities on the Fourth, look no further: here’s a quick listing of events around the area for the July 4 holiday.

  • New Brunswick: , 5 Paterson St., is hosting an Independence Day Celebration at 11 a.m. in the church’s yard. The church will present a reading of the Declaration of Independence, reenacting the third reading of the Declaration of Independence, which took place in New Brunswick on July 9, 1776. There will also be ringing of the church bells, a brief concert of colonial-era music presented by John Sheridan, and refreshments for sale.
  • City Historian George Dawson and James Raleigh of the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield will speak about George Washington’s celebration of the Fourth of July in New Brunswick on July 4, 1778. The program will be held in Buccleuch City Park in front of Buccleuch House, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
  • Milltown: Milltown has a whole day of great events planned to celebrate Independence Day. The day includes a fishing derby at 6 a.m. and a Fun Run, followed by a parade at 10 a.m. The parade begins at Van Liew Avenue and continues down Main Street to East Lincoln and then to JFK Boulevard, ending at Violet Terrace. Festivities will continue at Borough Park with rides for the kids, ice cream, food, music and more. Stay for the hot dog eating contest at 2:30 p.m. Live music begins at 7 p.m. until the fireworks begin at about 9:30 p.m.
  • Piscataway: The Piscataway Football Stadium will play host to Piscatway’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration, beginning at 7 p.m. There will be clowns, children's rides, and a classic car show, ending with fireworks at 9:30 p.m
