Middlesex Woman, 74, and Dog Saved From House Fire
A 74-year-old woman and her dog were saved from a house fire Sunday morning in Middlesex borough, but the woman remains critical.

MIDDLESEX, NJ - A 74-year-old woman and her dog were saved from a house fire Sunday morning in Middlesex borough, but the woman remains in critical condition. The woman's husband, reportedly in his 80s, was able to get out of the home and call 911 to report the fire.
It broke out Sunday morning at a home at the corner of Market and Main streets. Police officers got there first at 7:45 a.m., according to a report on NJ.com. They tried to reach the woman, who was in a bathroom on the second floor, but "were pushed back by heavy smoke," the Middlesex Borough Police Department said in a statement.
Middlesex town firefighters arrived moments later and they were able to reach the woman, whose dog was with her in the bathroom.

However, she suffered smoke inhalation and is currently at the St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston where she remains in critical condition, NJ.com reported. Her husband was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset for evaluation. The condition of the dog is unknown.
