New Brunswick Man Charged With Non-Fatal Shooting

Giovanni Hoyos-Jaimes, 19, of New Brunswick was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree attempted murder.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that took place on the morning of Dec. 28 in the area of Phelps Avenue in New Brunswick.

Giovanni Hoyos-Jaimes, 19, of New Brunswick was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose, second-degree aggravated assault, first-degree armed robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

A female juvenile was also arrested along with Hoyos-Jaimes and charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction.

The shooting was not fatal. At 11:37 a.m. on December 28, New Brunswick police officers responded to the area of the Tov Manor apartments in response to a non-fatal shooting.

Upon their arrival, authorities found a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital. Investigators later determined Hoyos-Jaimes was the shooter, alleged the prosecutor. At present, the shooting does not appear to be a random act.
