The incident happened at 2 a.m. Friday, September 21 on Senior Street between Sicard and Wyckoff streets, New Brunswick city police said. This is one of several reported crime incidents to occur on or near the Rutgers campus so far in the start of the fall semester: As Patch reported, a sophomore student on the Rutgers wrestling team was arrested earlier this month and charged with assaulting two other students.
The victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that while walking on Senior Street towards Sicard Street he was approached by a male perpetrator who snatched an item of value from him and fled the area. The victim chased after the man, and engaged him in a physical altercation in an effort to recover his property, but he was subsequently assaulted by multiple men that came to the aid of the initial perpetrator.
