Spring Hills Somerset Assisted Living earns Second Consecutive “Advanced Standing” Quality Distinction from NJ Department of Health and Senior Services

Spring Hills Somerset Assisted Living Community has earned its second consecutive Advanced Standing, a quality distinction based on rigorous performance standards for licensed assisted living and personal care homes in the state, from the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

“We are very pleased to have earned our second Advanced Standing designation with the knowledge that the quality standards in this evaluation are designed to assist consumers as they make important decisions for themselves and their loved ones,” said Erio Rosario, Executive Director of Spring Hills Somerset. “By earning Advanced Standing, everyone on the team at Spring Hills Somerset is proud that their work and contributions on behalf of our senior residents has been recognized.”

In notifying Rosario about this year’s designation, the Department of Health said: “The Department of Health has once again granted your facility the distinction of Advanced Standing. This distinction bestowed upon an assisted living facility that successfully complies with all state, federal and local regulations that pertain to licensed assisted living facilities and comprehensive personal care homes in the State of New Jersey.

“Additionally, Spring Hills Somerset’s dedication to quality by participating in the National Center for Assisted Living’s Quality Performance Measures Survey and met the benchmarks for certain prescribed quality indicators as chosen by the Peer Review Panel of the Health Care Association of New Jersey Foundation.”

The criteria for Advanced Standing were established in 2012 by the New Jersey Department of Health to create a standard that is designed to elevate quality at assisted living facilities. The benchmarks that facilities must hit for “Advanced Standing” status were developed by a peer review panel, whose members include representatives of the state’s health department and the foundation of the Health Care Association of New Jersey, the trade association for nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The panel reviewed a wide variety of practice areas including the administration of medication and treatment, meal service and dietary requests, activity programs and specific programming for residents with cognitive issues, as well as employee training and housekeeping. Communities were also evaluated on their commitment to resident councils, family participation and their methods for soliciting resident feedback and family satisfaction.
