Amtrak Train Fatally Struck Person In Middlesex County Last Night

The cause of the accident is currently unknown.

EDISON, NJ— A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Edison last night, Amtrak officials told Patch

The person was on the tracks near the Edison train station, and was hit by the Amtrak Train 2262 at 7:20 p.m., Craig Schulz, an Amtrak spokesperson, told Patch.

249 passengers were onboard the train, which was held for about 2 hours and 40 minutes as authorities investigated. It proceeded on its way afterwards with no further incident.

Service was suspended to the station as a result of the accident, with New Jersey Transit tweeting out that it was a result of "an Amtrak trespasser incident" in Edison.

Eastbound trains bypassed Edison, Metuchen and New Brunswick between 8:20 p.m. and midnight last night. Trains were backed up into New York, causing nearly hour-long delays for all NJ-bound Northeast Corridor riders.
