AARP Releases Nonpartisan Voter Guides for NJ Congressional Races

The guide will allow voters to compare candidates' own words on Social Security, medicare and financial security.

The nonpartisan AARP released New Jersey voter guides featuring positions from candidates in all 12 federal House races and one U.S. Senate race – in their own words – on critical issues including Social Security, Medicare and financial security.

Voters of all ages may view the voter guides by clicking “New Jersey” at www.aarp.org/yourvote.

“Voters can often be overwhelmed by the amount of political clutter that comes out during election season,” said AARP New Jersey State President Dave Mollen. “AARP’s voter guides are a nonpartisan effort to make sure our members and all voters hear what the candidates are saying about key issues like Medicare and Social Security before they head to the polls.”

AARP’s guide poses three questions on Social Security, Medicare and Financial Security to candidates in all 471 federal races, including those in New Jersey:

  • How would you protect Social Security for today’s seniors and strengthen it for future generations?
  • How would you put Medicare on stronger financial ground and protect today’s seniors and future retirees from the burden of rising health costs?
  • How would you help Americans save so they can secure their future and live independently as they age?

The responses, which appear alongside AARP principles on each issue, consist of publicly available information and excerpts from candidate campaign sources. Before publishing the voter guides, candidates were afforded the opportunity to review their statements for any errors.
