BMW-Driving Bergen Man Went 139 MPH On I-95: Police

That's 69 miles over the speed limit.

A Bergen County man was clocked at doing 139 mph on I-95 in Maine earlier this month. That's 69 miles over the 70 mph speed limit.

Maine State Police told WMTW that Sang Yook, 64, initially sped up because someone was tailgating him.

Yook, of Dumont, slowed his BMW down "rapidly" after he a state police officer turned on his car's lights and sirens, NJ.com reported. He was traveling to Prince Edward Island in Canada, he told the publication.

Yook pleaded guilty to criminal speeding, spent two days in jail and paid a $300 fine, according to the WMTW report.

Yook told NJ.com that he had his car's cruise control on 75 for "most of his trip," but that someone was tailgating him so he drove faster to get away from him. He said he was only speeding for a quarter of a mile when police stopped him.
