County Offers Disability Guide to Residents
Guide dispels common myths about disabilities and offers information

Bergen County officials said the Department of Human Services Division on Disability Services has compiled a Disability Awareness Guide. The guide contains information on various disabilities, dispels common myths and seeks to open lines of communication.
“This guide serves as a useful tool on many fronts,” said Kathleen Donovan, Bergen County Executive. “It provides education to providers and facility staff as to the different aspects and challenges involved with different disabilities and how to facilitate better communication.”
“We are proud to share that this new guide is now being used by staff of the Division of Family Guidance and Office for Children”, said Jim Thebery, M.A., CSW, Director of the Division on Disability Services. “It is also used as a teaching tool by the National Park Services at the FDR Library in Hyde Park, N.Y. and the Thomas Edison Laboratory Museum in West Orange” he said.
