Developer's Presentation Moved to NMHS Auditorium

Monday's meeting will now be held at the high school and an opposition group "Field of Dreams" plans a rally to support the development of an athletic complex on the United Water Property

The borough announced Wednesday that it will move Monday's Mayor and Council meeting, which features a presentation by the proposed United Water property developer, to the New Milford High School auditorium.

"For safety reasons and to better accommodate the large number of residents expected, the meeting will be in the New Milford High School Auditorium beginning at 8 p.m.," said Deputy Borough Clerk Colleen Naumov in an e-mail.

The proposed developer for the property, S. Hekemian Group, will present their plans for the 16 acre parcel currently owned by United Water. The company entered into a contract for the purchase of the property back in December 2010.

A group called New Milford Field of Dreams planned to hold a rally at 7:30 p.m. prior to the start of the presentation.

"The New Milford community supports the development of a multi-use, multi-generational “green” community center, recreation and athletic complex — a place for all New Milford residents to enjoy," said a statement on the group's newly created website.

The United Water property was declared clean by the Department of Environmental Protection when all of the sludge was completely removed from the site. A berm that had been removed during the clean up will be rebuilt this spring and development of the property can then take place.

S. Hekemian was originally scheduled for an appearance at the March 14 meeting but rescheduled to make their presentation this Monday April 11.
