The Jewish Community Council of Teaneck will hold its annual observance of Yom Hashoa, Annual Holocaust Commemoration on Monday, May 2nd from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Teaneck High School auditorium. This commemoration has become
a much anticipated event for our local Teaneck area community, families, survivors and relatives of survivors. The event is free and open to the community. No reservations are necessary.
This year's program will feature survivor Fanya Gottesfeld Heller. She and her family survived the Nazi death squads due to Fanya's courage and the actions of two Christian rescuers. The family's struggle to survive is compellingly depicted in Ms. Heller's book, Love in a World of Sorrow: A Teenage Girl's Holocaust Memoirs, which was made into the documentary film, Teenage Witness: The Fanya Heller Story. Excerpts of the film will be shown at the event. Special musical presentation by Zalmen Mlotek, artistic director of the Folksbiene National Yiddish Theater, and his sons, Elisa and
Avram.
Preceding the main program is a special pre-event reception/tribute to all survivors and their families in our community. The reception begins at 6pm and will take place in the Media room adjacent to the Teaneck High School auditorium. To rsvp to the Survivor reception, contact Dena at 917-334-0937.
