New Milford Fire Department Launches Volunteer Recruitment Campaign with Federal Grant

New Milford Fire Department launched a FEMA-funded SAFER grant to recruit new volunteers via JoinNewMilfordFire.org.

New Milford Fire Department relies on volunteers to serve the community with honor and excellence. As the main fire department serving the community and its neighbors in New Milford, New Jersey, it answers hundreds of calls per year and needs more volunteers to join its team as firefighters.

Fortunately, thanks to a four-year federally funded grant from FEMA, the fire department is equipped to spread the word about ways and reasons to volunteer.

This month, New Milford Fire Department has launched a high visibility volunteer recruitment campaign. Its new website, www.JoinNewMilfordFire.org, showcases the fire department’s history rooted in service. The community can learn more about the volunteer experience, and read FAQS and member testimonials. The department is capturing leads through an inquiry form on the “Join Us” page. In addition to the website, the campaign will feature social media, lawn signs, a booth display, and other marketing strategies.

The campaign comes at no cost to local taxpayers since it is funded in its entirety through the Staffing Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“This service means so much to me,” said volunteer Matthew Arroyo. “More than just the calls, it’s being part of a tight-knit group, pushing yourself, and knowing you’re making a real difference.”

No prior experience is needed to join and all gear and training are provided for free. New Milford Fire Department is seeking volunteers with a variety of skills to serve in the following roles:

Firefighter – Perform all functions related to fire suppression and rescue operations, flooding and water rescues, forest fires, and hazmat required emergencies.

Junior Firefighter (ages 14-17) – Train and learn the skills of the fire service, gain hands-on experience. At 18, junior firefighters are eligible to train to become active firefighters.

To bring attention to the need for more volunteers, New Milford Fire Department hired the services of The Communication Solutions Group Inc., a full-service public relations and marketing firm based in Jenkintown, Pa. The company successfully ran recruitment campaigns for local fire and rescue organizations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including West Deptford Fire Department, Neptune EMS, Ship Bottom Fire Company and more.
