Peter Rebsch Appointed to Borough Council

Rebsch was appointed to fill former Councilman Keith Bachmann's seat until a special election is held in November

Borough resident Peter Rebsch was appointed Monday night to fill the open council seat created by Keith Bachmann's resignation.

Bachmann resigned his elected position as a legal requirement of his acceptance of an appointment to be a judge on the state Superior Court.

Rebsch was nominated along with two fellow Republicans, R. Lynden Day and Laure Schroeder. Only Rebsch was present at Monday night's work session.

Councilman Howard Berner put forth Rebsch's nomination and Councilman Dominic Colucci seconded the motion.

Councilwoman Randi Duffie was the only one to vote against Rebsch, with all other council members voting yes for Rebsch's appointment.

Rebsch immediately took the oath of office and then took his seat on the borough council.

"Thank you for the trust you put in me to help the borough of New Milford move forward," said Rebsch.

Duffie questioned whether Rebsch had severed ties with two borough departments. Rebsch was a paid soccer coordinator for the Recreation Commission but said he had withdrawn his name from consideration for the position.

Rebsch also said he had spoken with NMPD Chief Frank Papapietro earlier on Monday to let him know his company would no longer be able to do design and detail work on borough police cars.

Rebsch is also a candidate for borough council, seeking a three-year term in November.
