Two Million Seniors Not Enrolled in Drug Subsidy Program
Officials encourage seniors to check and see if they qualify

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), approximately two million low-income seniors on Medicare are eligible but not enrolled in the Low-Income Subsidy Program. The program allows participants to pay no more than $6.30 for brand name drugs and no more than $2.50 for generics.
Seniors can enroll in the program, also called LIS or Extra Help, online or by phone at 800-772-1213 (TTY users can call 800-325-0778).
To qualify, seniors must make less than $16,335 a year individually or less than $22,065 for married couples. They must also have resources limited to $12,640 individually or $25,260 for married couples. According to the CMS, resources include bank accounts, stocks and bonds, but exclude a beneficiary's house, car and life insurance policy.
