Registration is now open for the Children’s Art Camp, now in its 24th year at the Watchung Arts Center. The three-week program, for ages 6-12, begins on July 11 and runs until July 29, from 10 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday.

The program, under the direction and instruction of Mrs. Monica Otero, focuses on Creativity, Imagination and Ingenuity, offering children a unique opportunity to acquire or improve artistic skills, learn new techniques, explore different media and get inspired by famous artists, in an atmosphere of fun. Surrounded by the beauty of the Watchung Mountains, students appreciate both Art and Nature as they draw and paint outdoor scenes and have picnic lunches at Best Lake.

The central theme for 2016 isMasters of the Modern Age”. Students learn about Picasso, van Gogh, Matisse, O’Keeffe, Cezanne, Monet, Pollock, Reilly, Seurat, Mondrian, Kandinsky and others. Pieces based on the theme will be created daily (Projects vary each week!)

Participants draw using wet and dry media, sculpt with air-dry clay, make masks, paint, build structures using recycled materials, create prints, collages and much more! Workshops in different disciplines are scheduled throughout the week. In each cycle, students will create a small acrylic painting on canvas boards suitable for framing!

Art Camp culminates with a student show in the Lower Gallery featuring works from all three cycles. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the opening reception.
