11-Year-old Charged With Bomb Threat In South Jersey

An 11-year-old student was arrested Friday for allegedly making a bomb threat that shut down a middle school in southern New Jersey, according to authorities.
The middle school student was then charged with creating a false public alarm and released to his parents, police said.
The incident happened at the Alder Avenue Middle School in Egg Harbor Township around 11 a.m. Thursday, when the school was evacuated and police were called in to investigate, police said.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to the Alder Avenue Middle School in the Cardiff section of the township, made contact with school officials and secured the area, police said.
The school was evacuated of all students and searched with explosive detection dogs from the State Police, Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department.

The students were returned to the school after the school was cleared. The students were out of the school for approximately two hours, police said.
