Championship Season Comes to End for Ocean City Girls Basketball Team

The Red Raiders fell to Middletown South in the state semifinals on Wednesday.

The Ocean City High School girls basketball team saw its championship season come to a close in the semifinals of the NJSIAA State Group 3 playoffs Wednesday night, according to nj.com.

The Red Raiders took their first lead of the game in the third quarter, but ultimately fell to Middletown South, 51-41. Middletown South will play Old Tappan for the state championship this weekend.

Grace Sacco led Ocean City with 14 points, followed by Michaela Baker with 12.

Ocean City trailed by five at halftime, but took a 33-29 lead after three quarters by outscoring its opposition, 12-3. Middletown South regained the lead and never looked back in the fourth.

Ocean City was in the state semifinals after winning the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 title with a 37-29 win over Toms River East. Middletown South capture the Central Jersey title.

In the south, the Red Raiders had advanced to the final with a 22-16 win over Winslow in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals,Ocean City defeated Absegami, 49-34.

Ocean City defeated Central Regional, 48-36, in the first round.

Ocean City finished the season with a record of 25-5.
