Just Pups Store Owner Selling Dogs Due To 'Overcrowding'

The store remains closed while an investigation into animal cruelty allegations is conducted.

PARAMUS, N.J. – The owner of the Just Pups store is selling the 70 puppies still at the location while it is closed.

The Paramus Board of Health ordered the store closed earlier this month after police found 67 puppies inside a van behind the store. The dogs were crammed into small cages and some were covered in urine and feces. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is investigating allegations of animal cruelty brought against the store.

A judge ordered the store remain closed last week so owner Vincent LoSacco could have adequate time to mount a defense against the allegations. The Board of Health could recommend to revoke LoSacco's license at a hearing May 2. The Borough Council has the final say on the license.

“We’re trying work out something out with Paramus to open the store for three days and sell the dogs that way, but they don’t seem willing,” LoSacco said. “It’s not fair for the dogs to just sit in an empty store, overcrowded like that."

LoSacco said all the dogs have been checked out by the store’s veterinarian and are “in good health.” The dogs normally cost about $1,400 to $1,600. They are now priced at half that, LoSacco said.
