Paramus Police Officer: 'You Have To Do Your Job The Same Everyday'

Paramus Police Officer Richard Paldino spoke about his job on a recent piece for ABC News' '20/20.'

PARAMUS, N.J. — A borough police officer said recently that he does not fear for his safety following the killing of five Dallas police officers by a sniper and former Army reservist.

Micah Xavier Johnson killed five Dallas policemen Thursday and injured seven others had grown increasingly resentful toward law enforcement in general and especially hateful of white officers. The attack came after the killing of two black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Paramus Police Officer Richard Paldino spoke about his job during an interview with ABC News' 20/20. The interview was part of a series the network ran about individuals fearing the police and how police are being targeted more often.

"A situation can turn from good to bad in a second, so, yeah we have to look out for that," Paladino said. "Some people trust the police, some people don't trust the police. I guess it's all based on your perceptions of them."

Paladino said that he does not fear for his safety.

"You have to do your job the same everyday," he said. "No, I don't fear for my safety. It's not something I'm constantly thinking about."

Paladino also said most of people he encounters while on patrol he doesn't know.

"I don't know that that person most of the time," Paladino said. "I can't judge them for something in their past if I don't know their past."
