Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, NJ Listed on 2015 National Register of Historic Places
Acceptance on the National Register of Historic Places was the culmination of a three-year application process.
Paramus, NJ (October 2015): The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, NJ is pleased to announce that that on September 21, 2015 it received notification that the National Park Service listed the golf course and several of its buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Park Service is an agency of the United States federal government that manages all U.S. national parks, many American national monuments, and other conservation and historical properties with various title designations.
Constructed in 1929, Ridgewood Country Club is a prime example of what is considered the golden age of golf course and clubhouse construction. Legendary architect A. W. Tillinghast, whose credits include Baltusrol, Winged Foot, Beth Page Black and Somerset Hills, designed the 27-hole course. The club has gone to great lengths to remain loyal to Tillinghast’s creation including restoring bunkers and fairways that had changed over time to the architect’s original intent.

The Norman Revival Clubhouse was designed by architect Clifford C. Wendehack whose credits include the clubhouses at Hackensack and North Jersey country clubs. Ridgewood is the only New Jersey course where grandmasters Tillinghast and Wendehack combined their talents.
Acceptance on the National Register of Historic Places was the culmination of a three-year application process which included earlier listing on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. Watson & Henry Associates, a Princeton-based consulting firm, advised the club during its application process.
