WATCH: Dashcam Video Of High-Speed Route 17 Car Chase
The driver speeds past vehicles on the busy highway, nearly hitting several in the process.
PARAMUS, N.J. — Police dashcam video shows the driver who led police on a high-speed car chase Wednesday weaving in and out of traffic, narrowly missing vehicles on Route 17.
Police stopped the Audi A4 Andrew Flex was driving due to a broken taillight, authorities said. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and went to speak with Felix when the car took off speeding on Route 17.

Eventually, Felix and passenger Steven Pena, 20, got onto the Garden State Parkway and tried merging onto Route 80 when the car spun out of control and hit a guardrail.
In a separate incident, Nicholas Vizzone crashed through a locked gate and fence and hit several vehicles at a car dealership while police chased him on Route 17 Wednesday afternoon, police said. Vizzone was wanted by Oakland Police for reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said in an NBC report that the officers in both pursuits followed state procedures.
"Under the pursuit guidelines, they need to balance out the risk to the general public, the risk to them and the risk to the perpetrators here," Ehrenberg said in the report.
