Mt. Tabor Children's Day Celebrates Kids Saturday

The event, including a coronation ball, carnival and parade, has been running annually for 143 years.

The 2012 Mt. Tabor Children's Day is all about paying tribute to the children of Tabor.

The 143-year-old celebration, which kicked off Thursday with the Howard Bell Memorial 5K takes place Saturday throughout the historic Parsippany neighborhood.

Presiding over the special day is the , led by King Jasper Gates and Queen Olivia Dauber. The monarchs and their court will be crowned at the yearly coronation ball held for Mt. Tabor residents and guests Friday evening.

Saturday will start with athletic activities. The centerpiece event of the day is the annual Midway Carnival and Parade.

"At noon they have the parade with different categories from strollers to large floats," explained Tabor resident Louis Yuliano Jr. "Then at the Mt. Tabor Country Club, the midway is filled with carnival games, pony rides and other events."

will provide food for sale, with proceeds going to support its efforts.

Yuliano told Patch that prizes will be given for decorated homes throughout the neighborhood and for parade winners.

Another parade is set to kick off at at approximately 7 p.m. This event will feature the prize winners and all six of Parsippany's volunteer fire districts, and , and .

The evening ends with a concert at the country club and fireworks.

The Children's Day events are funded by Francis X. Wentworth of Wentworth Commerical Realty.
