Parsippany-Based Frozen Veggie 'Giant' Sells, Here's Why
The sale comes three years after the same company bought the Parsippany giant's line of "shelf-stable" products.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — A frozen and canned food giant, based in Parsippany, recently sold the company.
On Monday, Seneca Foods Corporation announced that it has acquired the Green Giant brand from B&G Foods, which is headquartered on Gatehall Drive in Parsippany.
Seneca Food Corporation owns a variety of packaged fruits and vegetables brands, including Libby's, Aunt Nellie's, READ salads, and Cherryman, to name a few. B&G Foods owns brands including Crisco, Ortega, and, up until recently, Green Giant’s frozen produce.

With the purchase, Seneca acquires:
- Green Giant brand and associated intellectual property
- Green Giant U.S. frozen inventory
- Frozen vegetable manufacturing operations in Yuma, AZ
Seneca already owns Green Giant’s “shelf-stable products,” including canned vegetables, and looks forward to "growing the frozen franchise in a category that continues to expand and building on the positive momentum we’ve experienced in Green Giant shelf-stable business.”

“We are excited to announce the acquisition of the Green Giant U.S. frozen business from B&G Foods,” stated Paul Palmby, President and Chief Executive Officer of Seneca Foods Corporation. “This acquisition significantly enhances our frozen capabilities and expands our reach in the frozen category… With this acquisition, the iconic Green Giant shelf-stable and frozen businesses are back together.”
It’s not clear at this time how much money B&G Foods made from the acquisition.
According to a report from Food Dive, B&G intends to use the sale proceeds “to reduce its debt or make acquisitions.”
