Snapchat Threat Against School Investigated: Parsippany Police

The post did not mention a specific student, weapons, or time frame, police said.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Parsippany teen was charged after a Snapchat post of his was reported to police, Parsippany police said.

At 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, the 15-year-old's Snapchat post, which appeared to be a threat directed towards other Parsippany Hills High School students, was reported to police. Officers went to the teen's home and saw the post; they determined that the post "did not directly mention any type of threats towards a specific student."

"It also did not mention any time frame, weapons, or means of which the threat would be carried out," police said.

The teen was taken into custody and "charged accordingly," police said. He was released to his parents, and school officials were notified.

"Due to the recent incidents around the country, our officers will act accordingly to make sure the schools, staff and students are protected and each threat is fully investigated. During the investigation if we must take action, we will not hesitate." police said. "If you see or hear of any type of threat please report it immediately."

This is not the first time in recent weeks police have had to investigate something at a Parsippany school. On Feb. 16, a round of ammunition was found in the hallway of Brooklawn Middle School. No arrests were made yet in that case.

According to The Educator's School Safety Network, there have been 673 school-based threats or violent incidents in the U.S. since the Parkland shooting — an average of 96.1 per school day. In all, 490 schools in all 50 states have been threatened or had actual violence happen, according to the group.
