Here are the top stories today in Parsippany:

  1. Watch out for that spotted lanternfly, the pesky creature that's become a growing concern in Parsippany. A presentation on the spotted lanternfly and a vote to authorize $5.7 million in bonds toward sewer utility improvements were among the items on the agenda for Tuesday night's Township Council meeting. A few Parsippany residents reported sightings of the spotted lanternfly, the township reported Aug. 13. After several reported sightings around Morris County, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture added the area to its spotted lanternfly "quarantine." Expect more coverage of Tuesday's meeting this week. (Parsippany Patch)
  2. The arrival of fall means many things. But for the littlest among us, it often means Trunk or Treat. But of course, the coronavirus comes into play. Township officials are reviewing locations and discussing the size of Parsippany's Trunk or Treat, which is preliminarily slated for 3-6 p.m. Halloween. (Parsippany Patch)
  3. Niche's annual report cards and rankings for school districts are in, and Parsippany got high marks. The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District placed among the top 50 in New Jersey, according to the website. (Parsippany Patch)
  4. The Township of Parsippany received a storm of angry comments when it announced Friday on Facebook that its recycling center would be closed on the weekends until November due to budgetary constraints. The decision leaves many residents without access to the Recycling Center at a time when it is most convenient. The closure indeed results from a lack of funds, according to a township spokesperson. (Parsippany Patch)
  5. Planning Board meetings can be among the most important moments in shaping the township's future. Parsippany Focus uploaded footage of Sept. 13's meeting. (Parsippany Focus)
  6. Morristown coal truck from the '30s was 'buried' in a garage for 60 years. It's now up for auction. (Daily Record)
