Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County & Toms River Police Partner
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County Kicks-Off new program!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County’s 15 year relationship with the Toms River Police Department has expanded into a partnership. The Toms River Police Department has embraced the first in Ocean County “Bigs in Blue” Program. The “Bigs in Blue” is a national program focused on building relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve through a one to one mentoring relationship. The Toms River Police Department wants to show the community, especially the children that they are here to protect and help them. They also recognize that prevention is critical with the youth in the community and that a positive role model in their lives will make a difference.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County currently has a waiting list of children in need of a mentor in both the community and school based programs. These are the children that will be the first to benefit from this program. “Reaching children at a young age through positive role models greatly enhances their chances of success." stated Toms River Police Department- Chief Mitchell Little.
BBBSOC CEO Sue Sedivec stated “This is such an exciting time for us and the Toms River Police Department, not to mention the impact that it will have on the children and the community. If you would like to know more about this program join us on Saturday July 22nd 9:30 am at Toms River High School East soccer field for our “Field Day Kick-Off”. You can meet our Littles and the police officers who have made the commitment to give their time to make a difference in the life of a child from our waiting list.”
