One after another, a series of surprising, ill-timed storms hit the state this year.

NEW JERSEY – New Jersey didn't get any big blizzards this year. But there were some strange and destructive storms in 2019, and a series of weird systems even produced three tornadoes in one week.
Even though snow wasn't a big issue this year, there were a series of storms that came and whacked the state especially during the summer and fall, leaving tens of thousands without power and causing millions of dollars in damage.
New Jersey even had what's called a "bomb cyclone" that's supposed to produce heavy snow during the winter. Instead, it lead to a nor'easter in October that knocked out power to nearly 50,000 customers.

The National Weather Service confirmed that three tornadoes touched town in New Jersey in one week in August.
One tornado damaged solar panels and injured a woman. Another caused significant damage to a greenhouse, whose glass roof was shattered. Shards of glass were blown for hundreds of yards, with many shards also piercing clean through the doors and walls of a nearby barn.

12K Lose Power As 50-MPH 'Bomb Cyclone,' Nor'easter Winds Impact NJ
Nor'easter winds from a "bomb cyclone" impacted New Jersey in October, causing power outages, downing trees and power lines and creating traffic problems.
The storm brought 30- to 50-mph winds and heavy rains to the region as commuters struggled to get to work.
A bomb cyclone essentially is a low pressure system that is a strong nor'easter, one that can even resemble a small tropical storm and can build strength very quickly, according to the NWS.

Videos show lightning coming down next to the Ocean City boardwalk at 13th Street, and one showed an umbrella shed catching fire.

47K Lose Power, Schools Close In Halloween Storm
More than 47,000 were without power early after a fierce storm hit New Jersey during Halloween week, knocking down trees and causing a traffic mess.
A building collapsed at Monmouth Airport in Wall, and a tornado warning was temporarily issued in four New Jersey counties as downed wires and trees were reported across the state.

NJ Weather: 37K Lose Power, 428 Crashes In NJ Snowstorm
A winter storm led to at least 428 motor vehicle crashes that "clobbered" some New Jersey roads and highways in early December, as hundreds of schools closed and more than 37,000 lost power, state officials say.
More than 12 inches fell in some areas of New Jersey. Enough wet snow downed wires. Power outages were reported in towns throughout the state.
