  • The jackpot - won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball - is either an annuitized prize paid out over 29 years (30 payments counting the first immediate payment) or a cash lump sum payment.
  • If you choose the cash, then you get the cash, pay the tax, and can invest what is left over. If you choose the annuity, then we can invest the cash amount pre-tax, less an immediate first payment (more to invest means more earnings).
  • With the annuity, you get an annual payment that is increased by 5 percent each year to keep up with the cost of living.
  • The second prize - won by matching five white balls in any order - is $1 million paid in cash (no annuity option). You win by matching at least three white ball numbers. Any time you match the red Powerball, you win a prize.
  • Power Play is a special add-on feature that allows a winner to increase the original prize amounts (except the jackpot).
  • Each ticket costs $2.
  • The Power Play option costs $1 extra and must be selected when you buy your Powerball ticket. Powerball players with the Power Play option winning any prize other than the jackpot will win a larger cash prize.
  • The Match 5+0 prize with Power Play option grows to $2million paid in a cash lump sum (no annuity option is offered). All other lower prizes (below Match 5) will be multiplied by a number that we draw (2X, 3X, 4X, or 5X).

On Saturday, there were five New Jersey Lottery tickets sold that matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball, drawing winners for the $50,000 third-tier prize. If those tickets had been purchased with the Power Play Multiplier option, they would have been worth $100,000.

The winning tickets from Saturday night’s drawing were sold at the following locations:

  • Cape May County: Kix Package Goods, 120 63rd St., Sea Isle City;
  • Essex County: The Mini Pantry II, 979 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange;
  • Middlesex County: Spotswood Wine & Liquors, 75 Old Stage Rd., Spotswood;
  • Morris County: Randolph Gas and Convenience, 514 Route 10 West, Randolph; and
  • Somerset County: The Wine Rack, 572A Allen Rd., Basking Ridge;

The winning numbers for the Saturday, Aug. 12 drawing were: 20, 24, 26, 35 and 49. The Red Power Ball number was 19. The Multiplier number was 02.

In addition to the third-tier prizewinning ticket sold, there were 111,750 New Jersey players who took home an estimated $541,815 in prizes ranging from $4 to $200, according to Lottery Executive DirectormCarole Hedinger.

“Congratulations to all of the lottery players who purchased winning tickets and to the retailers that sold them,” said Hedinger. “I’d like to remind players to purchase their Powerball tickets with a winning attitude and add Power Play to the ticket purchase. Power Play doubles the second prize from $1 million to $2 million dollars and multiplies all of the seven lower prize sets available in the game by the number drawn that evening. The jackpot prize is not multiplied.”
