Timothy Harrison For Point Pleasant Borough Board of Education
Politics, government, schools, election
My name is Timothy Harrison and I am asking you for your vote on Tuesday, November 7 for a seat on the Point Pleasant Borough Board of Education.
Deciding to run for a seat on the board was not easy. This whole process forced me to operate outside of my comfort zone. I am not a politician. I do not enjoy all of the self-promoting that must be done in order to get elected. This is just not who I am. Despite finding the process uncomfortable, I know it's the only way that I will have a chance of becoming a member of the board and helping the children of Point Pleasant. Therefore, when asked why do I believe I’m the right person for the board, I must begin with my background.
I am the father of two sixth graders, so I have a personal interest in making our schools great. In addition to my work experience in education, I hold a masters and a doctorate degree in education from Rutgers. I I have been an educator for 17 years; 10 as a classroom teacher in grades 5-8 and as an administrator for the last seven years. I spent three years in the Westfield Public Schools where I served as the K-12 curriculum supervisor for Language Arts. In this position, I worked closely with teachers, students and administrators at all grade levels. In addition, I also had the pleasure of working very closely with the board of education as we faced various challenges during my tenure there. Currently I am in my fifth year as an administrator in the Jackson School District where I have served as both a building level administrator and a district curriculum and instruction supervisor. My experience at all levels, kindergarten through grade 12, has enabled me to develop a deep understanding of both elementary and secondary education. This level of experience and knowledge is currently absent from the board, but I believe it is needed. As a parent, taxpayer and educator, I have a unique perspective that I believe will enhance the board of education.
If elected my focus will be on curriculum, instruction and programs. I would welcome the opportunity to work closely with district administration and other board members to explore ideas that could strengthen our schools. One of the primary goals of any district is to prepare students to compete in an increasingly competitive, global economy. Teaching and learning is at the heart of this goal. It is incumbent upon administration and the board of education to provide teachers the tools, training and resources they need to teach our children to think critically, reflectively and creatively to analyze and solve real-world problems.
So, I will end where I began. Why do I want to serve on the board of education? Because I love this town, I love our schools and our children deserve nothing but the best. If elected, I will do everything in my power to ensure they are afforded the best education possible. Please vote for Timothy Harrison on Tuesday, November 7th.
Thank you,
Tim Harrison
