Members of the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department arrived on location to find a commercial vehicle overturned and the driver from that vehicle, Murphy, trapped under the truck, police said.

The driver of a second vehicle with heavy front end damage was also trapped in her vehicle. Members of Goshen Fire Company were able to extricate the driver of the truck who was in cardiac arrest, police said.

Murphy was transported by Goshen Ambulance to Paoli Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the 2014 Nissan Rogue SUV, a 71-year-old woman from West Chester, was able to self-extricate herself from the vehicle, police said.

She was transported to Paoli Hospital where she was treated and released later in the evening.

Police determined that Murphy was operating the 2010 Freightliner commercial vehicle eastbound on East Street Road when the truck left the roadway. When Murphy attempted to return the vehicle to the paved road surface, the truck rolled on its side, police said.

Murphy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. The commercial vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and collided with the Nissan Rogue that was traveling westbound, police said.

At the time of the accident the weather was clear and the roadway was dry. East Street Road was closed for 7 hours during the crash investigation and roadway repairs that were required, police said.

This accident remains under investigation by the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service will be 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 550 Mickle Blvd. Camden, NJ 08103.
