Woman's Club of Point Pleasant Invites Community to 2nd Annual Day of Service on January 20
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant has been serving our communities, the Beach, the Borough, and surrounding towns, for more than ninety years. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 will be their 2nd Annual Community Day of Service, and they are inviting the whole community to take part. The clubhouse, 513 St. Louis Ave., will be open all afternoon, from 1 to 5 pm. There will be several service projects available which could use your assistance . Members of the community are welcome to stop by, spend some time and help, or just drop by with items to donate for our other causes. Everyone is welcome to participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Some of the planned projects involve collections of things for various groups. Items can be just dropped off, or people can come, spend some time and help with sorting, counting, etc. Items to be collected included gently used shoes for Soles 4 Souls, old sneakers for Project Got Sneakers, clean used linens for local pet shelters, soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, non-perishable groceries for local food pantry, old cell phones for Domestic Violence Victims, old eyeglasses for New Eyes for the Needy, cancelled stamps for the missions, clean used mascara wands for Wands for Wildlife, and a variety of items to make Birthday Bags for kids in shelters. Completed Birthday Bags contain cake mix, icing, and candles, as well as items for the party such as, plates, napkins, balloons, candy, noise makers, etc. Collected items will be assembled to make a “Birthday Party in a Bag.” Bags are donated to local homeless and domestic violence shelters, so kids there can have a birthday party. People can donate one or two items, or a whole Birthday-in-a-bag.
Other projects will be more hands-on; such as making no-sew blankets for CASA kids, making Capes for Kids, making jump ropes for kids in shelters from recycled tee shirts, writing letters to Veterans, making puppets for Children’s Hospital, crocheting small items for local charities, making tray favors for nursing home residents, and more. All materials will be provided, you supply the ‘hand-on manpower.
