Friday Onwards, Princeton Police Will Help Patrons Get Home From Bars, Eateries

PRINCETON, NJ — We told you last month that Princeton Police will provide you with a designated driver if you plan to go bar hopping in town.

The program is launched to decrease the number of DUI, the police department said. This innovative new program will be available only at participating locations throughout Princeton.

Patrons need to look for the “Princeton PD Provides your DD” posters at local restaurants or bars to know which location is participating in the program.

To avail of the service, patrons can scan the QR code and the $15 discounted ride will automatically be uploaded to their Uber account. The QR code will be valid on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings between 8 p.m.- 2 a.m.

The drop-off location should be within the Municipality.

“We are excited to launch this program and provide this free service to our residents and visitors,” Sgt. Michael Strobel of the Traffic Safety Bureau said in a statement. “I’m hoping that once the program is up and running, neighboring towns will want to join, and we can spread this program throughout Mercer County.”

Strobel has led this initiative and took the idea to the council months ago.

The program is made possible through donations made to Princeton Police PBA Local 130. Currently, there are 22 participating locations, 17 being public establishments and 5 private establishments.
