WATCH: Injured Ice Skater Rescued From Remote Section Of D&R Canal In Princeton
Multiple emergency agencies responded to locate the skater in the darkness while using drones.

PRINCETON, NJ — Emergency crews rescued an injured ice skater from a remote section of the Delaware & Raritan Canal near Alexander Street on Tuesday evening, Princeton Police said.
The skater was found nearly a mile from the road in an area with deep snow, ice, and uneven terrain. Rescue crews used drones to locate the person in the darkness, police said
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including Princeton Police Department, Capital Health Paramedics, Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, Princeton Fire Department, West Windsor Police Department, West Windsor Fire Department/EMS, New Jersey State Police and Princeton Office of Emergency Management.

The skater was injured and received medical treatment at the scene. According to the rescue video released by the police, the man was "bleeding from the head." Authorities, however, did not disclose the extent of injuries.
Authorities reminded residents that ice skating is not permitted on the canal or other unauthorized waterways. Officials said ice thickness cannot be determined by appearance alone and urged people to skate only in designated areas. Cold water exposure can cause hypothermia and drowning within minutes.

Anyone who falls through ice should call 911 immediately and avoid attempting self-rescue without proper equipment.
